OSU: A BROKEN AND DAMAGED CLASS; Taken From the Book: Long Search For Greener Pastures By Author - Dandy Ahuruonye © 2015

Deep in the bushes and villages of Igbo land, there was a practice that perhaps rivalled those found in India, and other parts of the world. This practice was known as the Osù caste system. It was a classic example of social discrimination and exclusion. In some parts of the rainforest where the Osù caste classification was practiced, the ideology was transmitted via hereditary perceptions, and oral transmissions passed on from one generation to the next.
In this rainforest, the caste system was a divide mostly between the Diala and Osù dichotomy. It was a complicated philosophy where the Diala, regarded as the freeborn, was superior to the Osu. The Diala, as the so-called freeborn, were the masters in the land. They were the sons of the land or Mother Earth, and as such enjoyed all the privileges that accompanied being regarded as legitimate progeny.
